We are happy to present Swedish Biodiversity Symposium’s first keynote speaker – Professor Karen O’Brien.
Karen O’Brien is a professor of human geography at the University of Oslo. Her work focuses on the human and social dimensions of environmental change and integrative approaches to sustainability. She is currently co-chair of the International Science-Policy Platform for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) transformative change assessment.
Mats Björkman, senior lecturer and project manager of the symposium, is happy to welcome Karen O’Brien as a keynote speaker:
-Karen O’Brien is an ideal speaker for this symposium. Her expertise in transformative changes and integrative approaches offers valuable insights in how we to tackle global environmental challenges. Given that the main theme for the symposium is Transformative change – from knowledge to action, her talk will form a foundation for continued discussions throughout the conference.
Karen O’Brien is also co-founder of cCHANGE, a social enterprise that promotes a conscious and collaborative approach to sustainability transformations. Karen has authored several books. Her recent books include You Matter More Than You Think: Quantum Social Change for a Thriving World and Climate and Society: Transforming the Future with Robin Leichenko. In 2021 she was co-recipient of the BBVA Foundation's Frontiers of Knowledge Award for Climate Change.
